SETTING UP YOUR DESIGN FOR PRINT
To ensure your designs are print-ready, follow these steps:

- Exporting for Print: Always download your design as a PDF Print file with Crop Marks, Bleeds, and set the color profile to CMYK. This ensures color accuracy in print.
UNDERSTANDING COLOR PROFILES
Since Canva designs in RGB (ideal for screens), switching to CMYK is crucial for print projects. This change ensures your colors appear accurately when printed. If you’re using Canva’s free version, Smartpress (or most online printers) can convert RGB to CMYK during the proofing process. However, upgrading to Canva Pro lets you preview CMYK before export.
TIPS FOR FLAWLESS DESIGNS
- Margins: Keep text and important elements within a 0.25” margin to avoid them being cut off during printing.
- Fonts: Double-check font size by viewing your design at 100% zoom. Canva suggests a minimum size of 7pt for legibility.
- Color Testing: Since Canva doesn’t design in CMYK, test your colors by printing a sample at home or viewing a PDF preview.
WORKING WITH BLEED SETTINGS
For most print projects, Canva’s default 1/8” (0.125”) bleed setting is perfect. For large-format prints, like posters, adjust your file size manually by adding bleed to the overall size. For example, for a 24” x 36” poster with a 1/4” bleed, create a 25” x 37” file. Keeping in mind that 1/8 of an inch will be trimmed off all sides.
